Lambeth planning in numbers
PlanWatch reads Lambeth's planning register regularly. It recorded 2,465 applications in the 12 months to 30 October 2026.

What Lambeth residents apply for
| Type of work | Applications | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Extensions | 535 | 22% |
| Trees | 335 | 14% |
| Lofts, dormers and roof extensions | 270 | 11% |
| Shopfronts and signs | 125 | 5% |
| Change of use and conversions | 120 | 5% |
Types are read from each application's description, so one application can count under more than one. 562 were follow-up paperwork (discharging conditions, amendments), which is rarely worth an objection.

PlanWatch has not yet recorded a named decision (approved or refused) for Lambeth in this period: the register publishes decisions without the outcome, or we haven't read them yet.
We show the street or area only, never a house number or anyone's name. Search your postcode on the Lambeth planning page to see what's near you.
What you can object to
An objection only counts if it is about a material planning consideration. Loss of value, a private view, competition or who the applicant is do not count. Most Lambeth applications are extensions and trees, so these are the grounds that come up most here:
Also: character of the area, overbearing impact, noise and disturbance, traffic and parking, drainage and flooding, construction disruption. Then write it up with the objection letter guide or the template. Numbers alone rarely decide it: see how many objections stop an application.
Get alerted before the comment deadline
The 21-day clock starts when Lambeth Council notifies neighbours or puts up the site notice, not when you happen to notice the scaffolding. PlanWatch reads the Lambeth register regularly and adds new applications as they appear. Search your postcode free, save it to a free account, and on a paid plan get an email within hours of a new application near you reaching the register, while there is still time to comment.
Already found the application? If you think the decision was wrong, read whether you can object after approval.

Build my objection letterObjecting in Lambeth: questions
How long do I have to object to a planning application in Lambeth?
Lambeth Council gives 21 days to comment: "Applications that require public consultation allow 21 days for responses to be submitted." Lambeth publicises applications by letters to neighbours, a site notice and press adverts.
Can I object to a Lambeth planning application by email?
Yes. Lambeth Council accepts comments online on the planning portal, by email to planning@lambeth.gov.uk, by post to Planning, London Borough of Lambeth, PO Box 80771, London SW2 9QQ. Quote the application reference. Emailed or posted comments must include the application reference, your name and your address, and they take longer to process. Online comments are "acknowledged electronically if you provide an email address".
Will Lambeth Council publish my objection?
Yes. Comments are "open to inspection by the public" and appear on the online register up to five working days after they are sent, but the council does not publish names, addresses or contact details. Not accepted: "We do not accept anonymous comments on applications", and they "will not be considered".
Can I speak at the Lambeth planning committee?
Up to three objectors and three supporters can speak for up to two minutes each at the Planning Applications Committee. Register with Democratic Services (democracy@lambeth.gov.uk) by 12 noon on the last working day before the meeting, with a written outline of your points.
