How Enfield Council takes comments

Online, on the planning portal

To comment or object you must create an account on the online planning register; this is separate from an Enfield Connected account. The web form times out after 20 minutes, so the council suggests drafting your comments elsewhere and pasting them in. Open the Enfield portal.

By email

Enfield Council gives planning.support@enfield.gov.uk for when you can't use the portal. Quote the application reference and the site address.

Checked on Enfield Council's own pages on 27 October 2026: enfield.gov.uk: Consultation letters, enfield.gov.uk: The planning register, enfield.gov.uk: Planning application, governance.enfield.gov.uk: Planning. Councils change their process, so check the application's own page for its closing date.

PlanWatch has not yet recorded a named decision (approved or refused) for Enfield in this period: the register publishes decisions without the outcome, or we haven't read them yet.

We show the street or area only, never a house number or anyone's name. Search your postcode on the Enfield planning page to see what's near you.

What you can object to

An objection only counts if it is about a material planning consideration. Loss of value, a private view, competition or who the applicant is do not count. Most Enfield applications are extensions and lofts, dormers and roof extensions, so these are the grounds that come up most here:

Also: overbearing impact, character of the area, traffic and parking, trees, construction disruption, drainage and flooding. Then write it up with the objection letter guide or the template. Numbers alone rarely decide it: see how many objections stop an application.

Get alerted before the comment deadline

The 21-day clock starts when Enfield Council notifies neighbours or puts up the site notice, not when you happen to notice the scaffolding. PlanWatch reads the Enfield register regularly and adds new applications as they appear. Search your postcode free, save it to a free account, and on a paid plan get an email within hours of a new application near you reaching the register, while there is still time to comment.

Objecting in Enfield: questions

How long do I have to object to a planning application in Enfield?

Enfield Council gives 21 days to comment: Applications are open for comments for 21 days, or 24 days if the period runs over a public holiday. The neighbour consultation expiry date is on the application's 'important dates' tab on the register. On late comments: After the deadline you can still comment through the register while the status is 'application in progress', but "We cannot guarantee your comments will be considered" once it says 'awaiting decision', and comments can't be considered after a decision.

Can I object to an Enfield planning application by email?

Use the portal first. Enfield Council gives planning.support@enfield.gov.uk for when you can't comment online. Quote the application reference and the site address.

Will Enfield Council publish my objection?

No: "Comments are not currently visible online, but are held on file and available from the planning officer." You can ask to see them through planning.support@enfield.gov.uk.

Can I speak at the Enfield planning committee?

The public can take part only by deputation. You must have commented during the consultation period, and only deputations opposing the officer's recommendation are heard. Send a written request to democracy@enfield.gov.uk by 10am on the day of the meeting. You get up to five minutes, shared if several people ask to speak.

How many planning applications does Enfield get?

PlanWatch recorded 3,349 planning applications for Enfield in the 12 months to 27 October 2026, about 279 a month, 341 of them in the last 30 days of that period. None of them has yet a recorded approve-or-refuse outcome, too few for an approval rate.
