How Croydon Council takes comments
Online, on the planning portal
Search the Planning Register for the application and leave your comment there. You must give your contact details, say what kind of commenter you are, and say whether you object, support or are neutral. Open the Croydon portal.
Croydon Council's comment pages give no email or postal address for planning comments, so use the portal.
Checked on Croydon Council's own pages on 27 October 2026: croydon.gov.uk: Add your comment planning register, croydon.gov.uk: After you submit comment, croydon.gov.uk: Sd 01 croydon statement of community…. Councils change their process, so check the application's own page for its closing date.

What you can object to
An objection only counts if it is about a material planning consideration. Loss of value, a private view, competition or who the applicant is do not count. Most Croydon applications are extensions and lofts, dormers and roof extensions, so these are the grounds that come up most here:
Also: overbearing impact, trees, noise and disturbance, construction disruption, traffic and parking, drainage and flooding. Then write it up with the objection letter guide or the template. Numbers alone rarely decide it: see how many objections stop an application.
Get alerted before the comment deadline
The 21-day clock starts when Croydon Council notifies neighbours or puts up the site notice, not when you happen to notice the scaffolding. PlanWatch reads the Croydon register regularly and adds new applications as they appear. Search your postcode free, save it to a free account, and on a paid plan get an email within hours of a new application near you reaching the register, while there is still time to comment.

Build my objection letterObjecting in Croydon: questions
How long do I have to object to a planning application in Croydon?
Croydon Council gives 21 days to comment: Croydon's Statement of Community Involvement says applications are publicised by site notice for "not less than 21 days" or by notice to adjoining owners or occupiers. Bigger or sensitive schemes are also advertised in the Croydon Guardian.
Can I object to a Croydon planning application by email?
Croydon Council asks for comments online on the planning portal; it does not publish an email address for planning comments. Search the Planning Register for the application and leave your comment there. You must give your contact details, say what kind of commenter you are, and say whether you object, support or are neutral.
Will Croydon Council publish my objection?
Partly: your address and stance (object, support or neutral) go online straight away, but "We will not display your text comments, telephone number or email address to the public."
Can I speak at the Croydon planning committee?
If an application you commented on goes to committee, the council tells you by email or letter about 5 working days before, with the date, time and how to apply to speak. There is one 3-minute slot for objectors and one for the applicant or supporters, and your comment is reported to the committee even if you don't speak.
